Gasoline prices reached a record high Monday, Feb. 25, in Birmingham.

According to the Birmingham News, a gallon of unleaded gasoline was an average of $3.11. This matched the state’s high.

Gas prices for February were unexpectedly high considering that demand is lower in winter months.

A recent survey by the research group called Civil Society Institute say that 71 percent of Americans believe gasoline will hit $4 a gallon by summer.
