Future forecast: It's up to you

Most seniors will struggle with the new and not-so-apple-pie reality of America's working world. No longer will we leisurely walk to class and admire the beauty of God's creation.

Those carefree strolls will be replaced by the smell of smog and honking horns in downtown intersections. Not to mention, there will be no one at the office waiting to say the "Have a good day!" that I can hear thousands of times in just one day at SU.

Instead, the amiable exclamation of "have a good day" may be replaced by profanities or cold silence.

Looking forward to the real world? Me, too.

And for those who are crazy enough to pursue more education, keep this article for when you get out in eight years.

I must admit that I'm prideful about being a member of what the media is calling the philanthropist or humane generation. We like to have meaningful relationships and give back to humanity.

Though we are quickly starting to lose vital pathways of communication to online dating and Facebook, we still have a human desire for deep relationships by reaching out to others.
In the working world, our community will be dramatically altered from the Samford banners of Greek Life, student organizations or our faith in Jesus to stand under.

Once we step away from this place, we step away from all things comfortable and find the fertile ground of opportunity to experience a more diversified side of the human experience.
Through nursing clinicals, I have had some limited exposure to the real world. I have found it to be a place of many lost people and endless challenges - just to reaffirm those nasty rumors you may have heard.

No, the grass isn't always as green as Samford University's. Because there is no regard for types of patients in healthcare, I have been able to take care of the diversity mother load, including murderers, drug addicts and the mentally ill - often referred to as the outcasts of society.

Once you are the lucky one who has to clean anyone up, no matter who they are, as well as offer them the finest skills of your expensive education, you are forced to see them in a better light.
