When you get tired of the Caf's food or your supply of Ramen noodles runs low, don't run out to buy a new box of EasyMac.
There are quick and satisfying alternatives to these dorm-room staples.
"The easiest thing for me to make is Pop-Tarts, therefore I have had them everyday for the past year," Jes Shields, freshman business major, said.
Most students cut meals when they are running late for class, but there are options that don't take as long as a visit to the Caf.
"Sometimes, especially in the morning, I don't have time for the Caf, but I am tired of the same boring dorm room snacks," Katharine Weaver, freshman international relations major, said.
Although the Caf has new options and plenty of ice cream, some students are desperate for change. Change doesn't always require a lot of effort, just a little imagination.
"The Caf serves good food most of the time, but there are some days when it just doesn't hit the spot. I got tired of Ramen noodles the first week of my freshman year, so I am always looking for new ways of cooking easy meals and snacks with a microwave," Brittany Todd, sophomore journalism and mass communication major, said.
When you entertain in your room, you may feel obligated to feed your guests. Since a bag of popcorn doesn't always satisfy hungry college students, you might want to try a new, tasty recipe to amaze your friends.
Cooking up a simple meal in the dorm only takes a few minutes. It's just as easy to cook for three as it is for one, so impress your friends with your culinary skills. The following recipes serve every purpose from a meal on the go to snacks with friends to dessert. Try some of these dorm room favorites to break up the microwave monotony.
Tasty Fajitas
1 package of pre-cooked chicken
breast strips
2 flour tortillas
Salsa
Shredded Mexican blend cheese
Cook chicken according to package directions. Place chicken, salsa, and cheese into flour tortillas. Roll up into fajita. Heat in microwave for 45 seconds to one minute until cheese is melted. For an added kick, add canned refried beans into fajita or as a side dish.
