A Wyoming coroner has ruled that 22-year-old blogger Gabby Petito died by strangulation and confirmed her death was a homicide.

On Tuesday, Teton County Coroner Brent Blue said she been dead for three to four weeks by the time Ms Petito's body was found late last month.

She was reported missing during a road trip with her fiancé, Brian Laundrie.

Mr Laundrie is considered a person of interest in the case. He has been missing since mid-September.

The case has captured national public interest and highlighted other similar missing persons cases.

Dr Blue told reporters in a news conference that Ms Petito's body was found in a wilderness campsite with signs of strangulation.

He would not confirm the specifics, or if an item was used to kill her.

He added that he could not disclose details of her toxicology report, but did say that she was not pregnant at the time of her death.
