Poetic Flare bids to go one place better than his sire in the Qatar Sussex Stakes at Goodwood's big summer festival.
Dawn Approach found Toronado too good in the 2013 renewal and eight years on, the three-year-old colt is the headline act on the day two card.
In a busy season so far, Jim Bolger’s charge has won the 2000 Guineas and the St James’s Palace Stakes, as well as finishing a close second to stablemate Mac Swiney in the Irish Guineas.
His Royal Ascot performance was his most impressive to date, as he came well clear of the field in the closing stages.
He also has form at the highest level with cut in the ground.
"I was expecting and hoping for him to win at Ascot, but possibly not as spectacularly as he did," Bolger said.
“He’s only had a break in as much as he hasn’t been racing, but he’s a horse who I have to keep moving, and so it hasn’t exactly been a holiday. He’s very well, and I couldn’t be happier with him.”
Alcohol Free is one of Poetic Flare's main rivals – and the Andrew Balding-trained filly has been supported into 7-2 from 5-1 with Unibet.
Snow Lantern is 9-2 from 11-2 with the same firm.
Chindit and Battleground were pulled out of the Group 1 mile event by connections.
The latter's trainer Aidan O’Brien, is still represented by Frankie Dettori's mount Lope Y Fernandez and Breeders’ Cup winner Order Of Australia.
