It’s sad that Stradiavrius couldn’t take his chance yesterday but that’s the way it goes. He’s been so good for the sport and he doesn’t deserve to run on unsuitable ground.

Shortly after the decision was made I got the leg up on Angel Bleu and it was all smiles again. I wasn’t so sure about Ralph [Beckett] turning him out so quickly again but, thankfully, he proved me wrong!

Onto day two and I get the leg up on Pied Piper for Her Majesty The Queen in a competitive looking handicap (1:50pm). He’s a bit of a character this horse and everything will need to go right for him, although he comes here wearing cheekpieces and on the back of a decent run at Newmarket a few weeks ago.

Star Of Emaraaty has got a decent draw in the Oak Tree Stakes (2:25pm). We’ve been hoping to get her black type for a while now and if we can get her in the top three then that will be job done on that front. Conditions may be against her though depending on how much it can dry out because her one run on soft ground wasn’t that impressive.

I’ve picked up the ride on Lope Y Fernandez in the Sussex Stakes (3:35pm). He was last seen in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot finishing behind Palace Pier but before that I rode him last year in the Breeders’ Cup Mile finishing third. I was a touch unlucky with him in that race because someone dropped in front of me and I lost my momentum, so to finish third was a good result. The Jim Bolger horse [Poetic Flare] looks a tough one to beat in this race but I’m very pleased to be on this horse, he’s very straightforward and definitely has a good kick.
