The Olympics are underway in Tokyo as countries from all around the globe bid to take a haul of medals back home with them over the course of the next three weeks.

Team GB are hoping for another golden summer after reading breaking Games on home soil in 2012 and in Rio in 2016.

There are dozens of medal hopefuls within the British contingent that has made its way to the Japanese capital – but they will face stiff competition.

USA, Australia and China are among those expected to challenge across a multitude of sport, while hosts Japan will be hoping to raise spirits across their country.
