Five people have been arrested after a chaotic brawl in an Asda store that involved someone dressed as Spider-Man kicking and punching a member of staff.

Six people were injured after the incident in the Clapham Junction branch, London, including a woman in her 20s who was taken to hospital, police said.

In awful video of the incident, a man dressed as Spider-Man appeared to walk through the store, kick a member of staff before punching her, leading her to fall to the ground.

Shocked gasps can be heard in the recording.

More footage shared on social media of the chaotic incident showed people shouting 'oh my' as people appeared to be being hit on the ground.

One Twitter user said: "The videos from this attack in Asda, Clapham Junction are abhorrent.

"What is happening to our society?

One woman who shared video of the fight wrote: Asda Clapham Junction. A bunch a thugs attacking colleagues, elderly and children absolutely disgusting #ASDA #viral #makethisgoviral. Disgusting."

She added: More videos of the tragic event last night in Asda. BAN THESE THIGS FROM SUPERMARKETS AND SHOPS!! (sic)."

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police told the Mirror: "Police were called at 22:40hrs on Thursday, 22 July to reports of a group of people involved in a disturbance at a supermarket on Lavender Hill, SW11.

"Officers attended along with London Ambulance Service.

"A woman in her 20s was taken to hospital with a minor injury.

"A further five people were treated at the scene.

"Five people were arrested in connection with the incident. They remain in custody at a south London police station:

– A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray and violent disorder
– A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray and violent disorder
– A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm, grievous bodily harm, affray and violent disorder
– An 18-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of affray and violent disorder
– A 17-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of affray and violent disorder."
