Former Liverpool forward Stan Collymore believes that Jordan Henderson could have a future as manager of the club amid rumours that he may be coming towards the end of his playing career at Anfield.
The 31-year-old has spent 10 years with the Reds since joining from Sunderland in 2011, and has captained them to a Premier League and Champions League title.
However, there have been suggestions recently that he could leave in the near future after initial talks over a contract extension broke down, although his current deal is not due to expire until 2023.
Writing in his column for The Mirror, Collymore urged Liverpool to extend Henderson's stay – and thinks he should also be given the opportunity to begin his coaching career on Merseyside.

"Jordan Henderson must be given a new deal at Liverpool and it should include a coaching role so he can transition into management," Collymore said.
"He's an absolute legend at the club, great with all who deal with him and a genuine positive influence.
"Nothing is guaranteed when players try to transition into coaching. But Henderson with his intelligence and leadership qualities is worth the investment."
The current favourite to eventually replace Jurgen Klopp is another Liverpool legend in Steven Gerrard, who has been impressing at the helm at Rangers.

Henderson contract issue may make sense on paper – but Klopp won't think so
But Collymore believes Henderson may actually be a more suitable figure to take over, as there would be less fanfare over his appointment.
"The bandwagon post Klopp would see Steven Gerrard as a fan favourite," he added. "He's done a brilliant job winning the Scottish title at Rangers and making that club believe again.
"But Gerrard has been kept at arm's length by Klopp, a massive character and seen as a threat in the football world to the incumbent. If the German is going to be at Anfield three to five more years, he should have Jordan front and centre as a second first team coach.
"He is a bright lad, a learner, a leader. There would be nothing behind his back. With Gerrard around, have five bad games and there'd be a clamour for him to succeed Klopp.

"I wouldn't discount Jordan piping even Stevie to the hot-seat, such is the respect Henderson has inside the club.
"He may not fancy management in the end, or he may take a different route like back at his hometown club Sunderland in the Championship like Wayne Rooney has done at Derby.
"But Liverpool would be missing a trick unless they keep him in the camp and nurture him."
