Everton have confirmed they have suspended a player pending a police investigation.

The Toffees have not disclosed either the player’s name, nor the offence for which he is under investigation.

The statement on the club’s official site read: “ Everton can confirm it has suspended a player pending a police investigation.

“The Club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time.”

Rafa Benitez and his Everton squad returned to Finch Farm for pre-season earlier training this month after the Spaniard replaced Carlo Ancelotti as head coach at Goodison Park.

They are due to fly out to America in the coming days where they will compete in the Florida Cup.

Their first fixture is due to take place on July 26 against Millonaros , before a fixture against either Arsenal or Inter Milan.

Their final warm-up will then be against Manchester United at Old Trafford on August 7, before the Premier League kicks off the following weekend.
