Leicester will continue contract talks with Youri Tielemans later this month and remain confident of keeping the Belgium international.

Tielemans has been offered a new long-term deal by Leicester and is set to have further negotiations with the club on his return from holiday, following his participation at the European Championships.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the midfielder this summer but it is understood that, while Jurgen Klopp is an admirer, Tielemans is not a summer target for the club.

Tielemans has two years left on his current deal and Liverpool believe it would require a huge transfer fee to even persuade Leicester to consider doing business, so a move is not on the agenda.

Leicester have proven shrewd and resilient operators in the transfer market over the past four years, raking in over £250 million from the sales of N’Golo Kante, Riyad Mahrez, Danny Drinkwater, Harry Maguire and Ben Chilwell.

Tielemans is highly valued by Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers and talks over a new deal initially started before the end of the last season.

Leicester agonisingly missed out on Champions League qualification on the final day, for the second successive year, and are preparing for another Europa League campaign.

Tielemans is viewed as crucial in Leicester’s hopes of sustaining progress, following his club record £32 million move from Monaco in July 2019. He was the scorer of Leicester’s historic winning goal in the FA Cup final against Chelsea in May.

Leicester have already strengthened their squad this summer with the £23 million signing of Patson Daka from RB Salzburg and Lille’s Boubakary Soumare for an initial £15 million.

Ryan Bertrand, the former Southampton left-back, has also agreed to sign and an announcement will be confirmed shortly.

Leicester kick off their Premier League season at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 14.
