Marnie Simpson has revealed why she and her fiancé Casey Johnson broke up earlier this year.

The Geordie Shore star, 29, shocked fans at the beginning of the year when she took to Instagram to announce that going forward, life revolves around her and her one-year-old son Rox – ‘just the two of them’.

The MTV star shared a number of cryptic posts and messages to social media, before finally coming clean about their breakup a couple of days later.

Despite this, the pair patched things up and reignited their love story a number of weeks later.

Now, for the first time, Marnie has explained why her relationship with Casey crumbled after months of ‘stress and pressure’.

Speaking to The Mirror, the proud mum-of-one admitted that her depression caused her to push everyone she loved away – including Casey.

The reality TV bombshell, who suffers from Trigonitis and severe bladder problems, has revealed that her condition took over her life and the pain and constant worry surrounding her diagnosis took a toll on her relationship.

Marnie explained that after her operation to remedy her condition, things took a turn for the worst.

“The operation was really painful. It took about four months to fully heal, and I was really, really depressed and so down,” she explained.

“I was about eight weeks post-op, and I thought the operation hadn’t worked. I got myself so upset and stressed out, even though the doctors had told us it was a very long, up and down recovery, and they said that would happen.

“But when you’ve gone through such a traumatic illness, you worry that you’re going to be like that forever. And I thought it hadn’t worked and pushed everyone close to us away, because I was so depressed at the time.”

Although the lovebirds have since rekindled their romance, they were hit with some more bad news a number of weeks ago when they were forced to postpone their wedding amid the pandemic.

Lifting the lid on her wedding plans, Marnie admitted that going ahead with her big day this summer ‘didn’t feel right’ because everything was ‘a bit of a shambles’.

“I feel like I definitely want a more simple wedding than we had planned,” the star revealed.

“I was trying to put too much into it before. I want a party but I don’t want to have to do the full sit-down dinner.

“All I want to do is just marry Casey.”

It comes after Marnie’s best friend and co-star Sophie Kasaei admitted that she had to beg to bride-to-be to allow her to be her bridesmaid.

“I’m only her bridesmaid because I bribed her,” Sophie told The Mirror.

“Marnie wasn’t going to have bridesmaids and I had to tell her that she’s only ever going to get married once in her whole life. She wanted all the attention on her so she didn’t want to have anyone standing by her side.

“But I had to remind her that I am in her life as a sister. I want to be a bridesmaid at your wedding and I want a little bit of attention as well.”
