England fans have been in crushes outside Wembley, with videos circulating of some breaking through turnstiles to gain access to the stadium for the Euro 2020 final between England and Italy.

There has been a huge gathering of supporters on Wembley Way for much of the day as the nation awaits their first major tournament final in 55 years.

For the majority, it has been a joyous occasion, but as kick-off has moved closer, there have been signs of disturbances.

Fans were seen breaking a security cordon two hours before the start of the final, attempting to gain access to the stadium.

UEFA released a statement shortly after that suggesting the issue had been resolved, saying: “Fans have been jumping over barriers but there has been no access to the stadium.

"No concern that any protocol will come into place in which the stadium will be shut down. There is no concern this final will not go ahead.”

A spokesperson for Wembley added: "We are dealing with an incident that occurred at the outer security perimeter area of the stadium, with support from police.

"Safety measures were quickly activated in the relevant areas and there were no security breaches of people without tickets getting inside the stadium."

However, there have been widespread reports across social media of potential crushes at turnstiles, with some reporting instances of fans forcing their way through turnstiles.

It is understood that some of the players’ families were caught up in the pushes by the entrances, before stewards allowed people to enter through different turnstiles.

There have also been several videos shared that show a number of England fans attempting to break into the stadium, likely without tickets.

Daily Mirror chief reporter Andy Lines who is present at Wembley said: “I’ve just seen a dad and his son about 10 get in without tickets.

“Run, get stopped by stewards. Taken out then run back inside again. This is madness.”

He added: "Fights breaking out. Couple of kids crying. One fan told me problem was at "pre check" at top of Wembley Way not being carried out properly. It's quite frightening on the concourses."

A Wembley spokesperson has now released a statement which reads: “There was a breach of security and a small group of people got into the stadium.

"We are now working closely with stadium stewards and security to remove these people. Anyone inside the stadium without a ticket will be instantly ejected”

Around 60,000 were due to be in attendance, similar to the semi-final clash with Denmark, as the government continue their trial events ahead of the planned lifting of restrictions on July 19.

The English FA was fined £25,630 earlier this week after an investigation into supporter behaviour during the semi-final victory over Denmark.

The three sanctions handed down were for disturbances during the national anthems, the use of a laser pointer and setting off flares within the stadium.
