A man in his 40s was stabbed to death in a park in the early hours of today with a 15-year-old boy among those arrested.

Essex Police said four people, including a teenage boy, are being held on suspicion of murder at park in Essex.

Emergency services rushed to Northlands Park, Basildon, at around 1.35am today, following reports that a man in his 40s had been stabbed.

Officers found that the man had suffered a stab wound to his stomach.

He was rushed to hospital but died there shortly after being admitted.

A 42-year-old woman, two men aged 41 and 45, and a 15-year-old boy have all been arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently in custody.

Essex Police say they believe that the attack was targeted and those involved are known to one another.

Enquiries into the alleged murder are ongoing.

Essex Police believe that there is not a risk to the wider public following this incident and are now appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have information relating to the incident.

A spokesperson at Essex Police told Essex Live said: "Four people have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in Basildon.

"We had been called to Northlands Park at 1.35am today (Sunday, July 11) to reports of a man injured.

"When we arrived we found a man with a stab wound to his stomach.

"He was taken to hospital but, sadly, later died there.

"A 42-year-old woman, two men aged 41 and 45, and a 15-year-old boy have all been arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently in custody."

Detective Inspector Kev Hughes, from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: “I know this incident will concern people living around the Northlands Park area but I want to reassure them we do not believe there is an ongoing risk to the wider public.

“At this time we believe this was a targeted incident with those involved known to each other.

“Officers acted swiftly to make arrests and our enquiries are ongoing.

“Uniformed officers, plain-clothed detectives, and forensics experts will remain at the scene and you are likely to see an increased police presence in the area.

“I need anyone who saw anything or has any CCTV, dash cam or doorbell footage, or any other information, to contact my team.”
