Armed police swooped on a city centre this evening as shocking footage showed officers ordering people down to the ground.

A video shows a woman dressed in pink lying face-down in the Plymouth street, while armed officers point their guns at a man next to a wall.

A third person nearby is held on the ground by an officer, Plymouth Live reports.

In a different video, armed police can be seen kicking one of the men who then falls to the ground.

The individual then stands back up and starts to back away from officers with his hands in the air.

Armed police pointed their guns at a man in Plymouth city centre

Onlookers can be heard shouting 'why are you getting up? Get down on the floor lad', before a policeman grabs the man and pushes him back down.

He then seems to climb to his feet once again before the video cuts out.

Footage shows one marked police car and another unmarked one parked at the end of the street with blue lights flashing.

The circumstances of the incident are not yet clear and The Mirror has approached Devon and Cornwall Police for details.
