Manchester United are close to agreeing a loan deal for Tahith Chong to play at Birmingham City next season.

The Dutch winger, 21, had previous spells at Club Brugge in Belgium and German club Werder Bremen but is set to stay in England for 2021/22 and get experience in the Championship.

Chong has played in the Champions League and his arrival on a season-long deal will be seen as a coup for Lee Bowyer, who is looking to climb the table after the club finished 18th last season.

The forward is a Holland Under-21 international and United moved swiftly to secure him to a new deal when Inter Milan were interested in signing him.

Spurs hoping to sign centre-half Tomiyasu during Olympics

Takehiro Tomiyasu has joined up with Japan’s Olympic squad with the hope of completing his deal to Tottenham during the Games.

The Bologna centre-back, 22, is determined to move to the Premier League despite interest from Atalanta in keeping him in Italy after two seasons in Serie A.

Spurs have yet to meet Tomiyasu’s valuation of £21.5m from his club, with the clubs understood to be around £5m apart with negotiations set to continue as the player prepares for the Olympics in Tokyo.

Japan start their Games against South Africa in a fortnight and also have group games against Mexico and France. Should they compete for a medal in the latter stages he would be involved until August 7, a week before the start of the Premier League season.

Spurs have targeted Tomiyasu, who can also play right-back, for new coach Nuno Espirito Santo as they look at a reshuffle in defence with up to two centre-backs arriving.

Premier League clubs keeping tabs on Bartley

West Brom centre-back Kyle Bartley has emerged as an option for Newcastle and Crystal Palace to bolster their defence.

The 30-year-old has a year left on his contract at The Hawthorns and could be landed for around £3m. Palace are looking to strengthen their backline as Gary Cahill was among the players who did not renew their contract.

Watford and Bournemouth eye former Arsenal youth

Former Arsenal trainee Kelechi Nwakali is being tracked by Watford and Bournemouth and is open to moving back to England.

The midfielder, 23, is at Huesca in Spain and impressed during a loan spell at AD Alcorcón, although his asking price is £15m.
