Loved Island's Brad McClelland was left homeless aged 11 and forced to move in with his nan after a fire broke out at his family home.

The 26-year-old labourer from Amble, Northumberland, has been living with nanny Joyce since the 2006 blaze ripped apart the house he shared with mum Kimberley and brother Mackenzie.

The fire was started by Mackenzie – who was just two at the time – when he was playing with his mum's cigarette lighter and set fire to the sofa.

Brad, 11, and brother Reece, eight, weren't home as they were at school at the time.

Luckily, the hero postman saved Kimberley and Mackenzie from the blaze by banging on the door to alert them.

Kimberley said he was putting letters through the door when he saw the flames.

"The firemen said that if it hadn't been for the postman we would have been dead. We can't thank him enough," Kimberley told Daily Star.

"They said if I had inhaled any more fumes from the settee I would have been dead. There was only seconds in it.

"The postman spotted the fire from outside and started banging on the front door. The bairn started screaming at the same time."

Fast-forward to now, and Brad is taking care of his beloved nanny Joyce to repay her for everything she did to help the Love Island star and his family out.

They sadly lost everything in the fire, but thankfully Joyce took them in, moving them into her bungalow.

"She was crying that she had lost everything and I was telling her she could have died. Now we will just have to rally around and give her whatever we can to get started again," Joyce told Chronicle Live at the time.

Meanwhile, Brad's relationship with his mum appears to have fizzled out.

He told Daily Star: "I'm not really close to my mum. She lives a 40-minute drive away from me and she comes to visit now and again.

"I didn't tell her I was doing Love Island because she's got a big mouth. She is one of those people who is far too excitable."

*Love Island continues tomorrow night at 9pm on ITV2.
