Manchester United are set to complete the transfer of Jadon Sancho within a matter of days after an agreement was reached with Borussia Dortmund.

Sancho, 21, came close to joining the Red Devils last year only for United and Dortmund to disagree on the fee for the winger.

But the Bundesliga club lowered their asking price this summer and the England international is finally on his way to Old Trafford for €85million (£73m).

As reported by many outlets in Germany, the two clubs reached a full agreement for Sancho on Wednesday and the player could be unveiled as the Red Devils' first signing of the summer later this week.

The player is understood to have penned a five-year contract with the option for a further season, while his medical will take place after England's run at Euro 2020 – however long that may be.

Sancho's soon-to-be United teammate Marcus Rashford seemed to jump the gun by announcing the transfer in a now-deleted message on Wednesday morning.

A fan tweeted Rashford saying "Announce Sancho Marcus," with the player's account replying: "Yes x."

The tweet was liked over 51,000 times before it was deleted, with Rashford later posting: "A little hack and I'm back. Morning all."

Sancho, a former Manchester City academy prospect, racked up 16 goals and 20 assists in all competitions last season and helped Dortmund win the German Cup

But, like Rashford, he has had to settle for a minor role at Euro 2020, making just one appearance off the bench in the group stage.

Explaining why Sancho is yet to start for the Three Lions at the tournament, Southgate said: "We've got some explosive options and a lot of them are young players and experiencing a big tournament for the first time.

"So, as a coaching staff we are realistic about our expectations of them as individuals.

"Jadon is in that mix. He's trained well the last few days and of course we have got those options and those decisions to make.

"I think a lot of those players we didn't have for the friendlies, so the chemistry is something we didn't have a lot of opportunity to work on.

"We've got to just keep working on that. We know there are some very good players in there."

Meanwhile, Sancho's arrival at Old Trafford ahead of the new Premier League season means Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has finally landed the attacking reinforcement he craves.

Right wing has been a problem area for United for some time, with Daniel James failing to convince and Mason Greenwood hopeful of playing up front rather than on the flank.

With Sancho added to their ranks, the Red Devils will boast one of the most-fearsome attacking quartets in Europe with Rashford and Sancho supporting Bruno Fernandes and Edinson Cavani.
