Sky’s Trevor Phillips, who buried his daughter last month at a Covid restricted funeral, has asked the Northern Ireland Secretary why he should follow any of the further rules the Government sets after Matt Hancock breached them.

Leaked CCTV footage showed the former health secretary, who formally resigned on Saturday evening, breaking his own social distancing regulations by kissing a close aide in his ministerial office in early May.

Mr Phillips puts what he calls his "private, personal question" to Brandon Lewis and says how just days after the video of Mr Hancock was taken, he was burying his daughter in compliance with coronavirus restrictions on funerals.

Mr Lewis said: "I absolutely accept and understand the frustration and even the anger that people have, having been through the situations they’ve been through."

He added that it has been a "tragic situation" and said that "what Matt did was wrong" but that the former health secretary had admitted that.
