A man has been arrested after a video emerged allegedly showing him attacking a woman with a stick and kicking her in a row outside a McDonald's restaurant.

The clip, viewed more than 65,000 times on social media, shows a man wearing a security uniform and a woman appearing to try to enter the fast food place in Birmingham.

A row ensues, and the woman throws a drink at the man, who reacts by grabbing an stick-like object and chasing her.

He then appears to hit her numerous times and kicks her as she lies on the floor.

West Midlands Police said it was aware of a video showing disorder outside the city centre store at about 4.30am on Sunday.

A 47-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of assault, police said.

A McDonald’s spokeswoman told The Mirror: "This incident is subject to an ongoing police investigation.

"We have a zero-tolerance approach to violence or abuse of any kind and will cooperate fully with police enquiries.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed it was called to the Stephenson Place branch following reports that a woman had been assaulted.

Paramedics were told by the patient she planned to take herself to hospital and she was discharged at the scene.
