News of his death comes just weeks after he shared a poignant post with fans revealing his declining health.
In a social media post shared back in May, Johnny wrote: "It is with a heavy heart I must let everyone know what's going on with me and my health.
"I have been hospitalised for over the last month. I have been diagnosed with liver failure. And prognosis is not so good.
"As with most musicians I do not have health insurance and it's very difficult to get proper care without it."

A fundraising page was set up to help cover Johnny's medical expenses as he was without health insurance.
A note posted on the page days before the sad news of his death, read: "He will get a new catheter for dialysis, the blood clot in his leg taken care of and a vessel in his heart fixed.
"All these procedures have risks. But they need to be done in order for him to be a candidate, so of course I consented to them.'
"'I know he wants to live, and thankfully I have total trust in the team taking care of him. They are truly doing everything humanly possible to save his life.
"One big step today. We’ve got his. He’s got this."
After previously recording a solo country album,. Johnny shot to fame in 1999 when he was hired to take over the band's vocals following the departure of frontman Sebastian Bach.

He went on to record four albums with the group, including 2003's Thickskin, and tour the world.
They notably opened for KISS on the glam rock band's world tour in 2000.
He was believed to have been married to actress Paula Marcenaro, but Johnny mostly kept his personal life private.
After news of his death, Paula shared a heartbreaking post on Instagram about grief.
She wrote: "The reality is, you will grieve forever. You will not 'get over' the loss of a loved one; you will learn to live with it.
"You will heal and you will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered."
