Ben White has broken his silence on the transfer rumours surrounding him and Arsenal, insisting that "you cannot believe" everything that is heard.

It comes as Mikel Arteta ramps up his search for a player to replace David Luiz, who left after his contract expired this month.

The Brazilian was a key part of the dressing room at the Emirates and the Gunners coach is desperate to find a suitable replacement.

And it has led the club to White, who has been tipped for stardom after two fine seasons with Brighton and Leeds United, where he was on loan and helped them back into the Premier League.

Now an England international, it has been a remarkable rise for the defender – who was called in to the Euro 2020 squad after the injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

And reports have indicated that Arsenal could make a bid as high as £50m for the Brighton ace, who has now had his say on the matter.

When asked what he thought of the rumours, he told talkSPORT: “It’s nice, it’s happened quite a lot over the last two years, there’s been a lot of noise.”

Arsenal are not the only club to have been interested in the 23-year-old, with Liverpool strongly linked over the season as a long-term Virgil van Dijk replacement.

Manchester United and Chelsea have also monitored the Poole-born star but the Gunners appear to have overtaken their Premier League rivals.

White is currently on international duty with plenty of other players who are all linked with transfers.

In the England camp, the likes of Jadon Sancho, Harry Kane, Kieran Trippier, Jack Grealish and Declan Rice have all been mentioned in various gossip columns.

But White has insisted that there is no talk of the rumours within their bubble.

When asked if he speaks to his teammates about the various transfer stories going on, he added: “Not really.

“You don’t know what’s true and what’s not. So there’s no real point talking about it.”

Arsenal legend David Seaman has been a huge advocate of the move, insisting Arteta needs to do everything he can to sign White.

“People of that quality need to be coming to Arsenal,” the ex-Gunners star said.

“I think we’re going down that route of players where they have young, promising with careers ahead of them.

“The days of signing marquee players – that are right on it now – Arsenal will struggle with that as they’re not in Europe.

“The key players don’t just want to play in Europe, they want to play in the Champions League.”
