Horrifying video has emerged of what appears to be a man attacking people with a shovel amid chaotic scenes in the street.

Police were called to reports of an incident involving a group of males at just before 7pm last night in Liverpool city centre.

Shocking footage of the incident has been widely shared online and shows someone being hit in the head by a man with what appears to be a spade or shovel.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police told the Liverpool Echo that two men have been arrested in relation to the incident while inquiries remain ongoing.

The video begins with a person, who appears not to be wearing shoes, lying on the road in front of a silver work van outside of the bar and surrounded by a group of people.

A group of men in high visibility clothing then emerge from the van, circle it and run over to the group.

One man, who can be seen brandishing a large spade or shovel, hits a man who is kneeling next to the person lying on the floor with the spade while another man wearing high-visibility clothing appears to punch a man standing nearby.

The man wielding the spade then appears to hit the person lying on the floor with the tool before retreating to the van.

Another video, taken from a higher vantage point, shows two other men falling to the floor during the brawl after being punched, although both get back up again shortly afterwards as people entering and leaving clubs and bars along the busy street look on in horror.
