Telly presenter Eamonn Holmes, 61, shared the happy wedding news with his Instagram followers, revealing Rebecca is getting married and calling his future son-in-law a ‘top lad’

Eamon Holmes is set to take on a new role as Father of the Bride after announcing his daughter Rebecca Holmes is getting married.

The 61-year-old TV presenter shared the happy family news with his 735,000 Instagram followers, posting a sweet snap of himself, his rarely seen daughter and her husband-to-be, Mark.

The trio were all smiles as they posed for the picture at a pub in Belfast.

In the caption, Eamonn called his future son-in-law as a "top lad" and revealed Mark sought his permission before asking for his daughter's hand in marriage.

The This Morning presenter wrote: "Wonderful casual family gathering tonight to celebrate my daughter Rebecca's engagement to her now fiance Mark.

"They are very happy as is our whole circle. Mark popped the question on Rebecca's birthday last week after asking me for my permission. He's a top lad who we welcome into our family with open arms."

Eamonn's celebrity friends were quick to send their well wishes to the Holmes family.

Fellow broadcaster Gaby Roslin commented "Ahh huge congratulations" while Lizzie Cundy wrote "How wonderful !!! Huge congrats."

The TV star's only daughter usually avoids the spotlight and opts for a private Instagram account, with less than 400 followers.

The Irish presenter is happily married to This Morning co-host Ruth.

While the newly-engaged Rebecca may not crave fame, her loving dad posts images of all four of his children on his Instagram account.

In 2020, Eamonn celebrated Rebecca's 29th birthday by sharing a picture of them together.

Captioning the photo, he wrote: "Many Happy Returns Darling. It was a very special day when Becca my daughter came into the world and every time I'm with her continues to be special."

Rebecca, 30, is one of three children from Eamonn's first marriage to ex-wife, Gabrielle Holmes.

The former couple married in 1985 and went on to become parents to Declan, Rebecca and Niall.

However, the pair split in 1994 with the former GMTV presenter citing his rising career as one of the reasons behind the breakdown of the marriage.

The presenter with his youngest child, Jack.

In the same year, the avid Manchester United fan would go on to meet current wife Ruth Langsford and become a father to his fourth child, Jack in 2002.

Gabrielle and Eamonn eventually divorced in 2005, leaving the the star free to marry Ruth at Elvetham Hall in 2010.

As well as preparing to walk his daughter down the aisle one day soon, the Irish star is also set to become a grandad soon as his eldest son Declan is expecting his first child.

Speaking on This Morning in April, alongside wife and co-host Ruth, he revealed the news that Declan and wife Jenny were due to be become parents.

He said: "Thank you for bringing so much joy and happiness into our lives at this miserable time."

"It has been a very tough year for so many people, there is not much good news around, and I have been having a very tough week.

"It hasn't been a good time and I've been in tears."

He then went on to show viewers a snap of his son and daughter-in-law, saying: "They have just announced that I, together with Valerie and Robin, Jenny's mum and dad and Gabrielle, Declan's mummy – we are all going to be grandparents.

"Can you seriously believe I am going to be a Grandpa?" before jesting that he is far too young to take on the role."
