Sharon Stone has called Meryl Streep the "kindest actress alive" after recent comments she made about Streep went viral.
The Basic Instinct star, 63, has commented on a post shared by actress Viola Davis who wished a belated happy birthday to her friend and Doubt co-star Meryl, 72, on social media.
Sharing an image of herself beside Mery, Viola penned on Instagram on Wednesday: “How could I have missed wishing this beauty, this Queen, a very awesome birthday!!!
“Here's to another trip around the sun. Love you sis [three heart emojis]”.
A plethora of Viola’s followers commented on the post to send their best wishes to both actresses.

Reese Witherspoon commented with two crown emojis, while Gloria Estefan penned: “HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MERYL!! You are one of the most genuine & talented people I have had the privilege of meeting!”
Meanwhile, Sharon herself penned: “Of course [four laughing emojis] happy birthday to the kindest actress alive !!!”
The post comes after a viral interview where Sharon questioned why Meryl’s acting talents are given higher standing and respect compared to other actresses.
Speaking to Everything Zoomer last month, Sharon was asked what it was like to “finally” work with Meryl on the 2019 film The Laundromat.

She responded: “I like the way you phrase that, that I finally got to work with Meryl Streep. You didn’t say, 'Meryl finally got to work with Sharon Stone.' Or we finally got to work together."
Questioning if Meryl would like the phrasing herself, Sharon criticised how Hollywood has created a system where women have to compete with each other.
Sharon continued: “The business was set up that we should all envy and admire Meryl because only Meryl got to be the good one. And everyone should compete against Meryl. I think Meryl is an amazingly wonderful woman and actress. But in my opinion, quite frankly, there are other actresses equally as talented as Meryl Streep.”
Among such actresses, Sharon noted Viola Davis, Emma Thompson, Judy Davis, Kate Winslet, and Olivia Colman as being just as talented as Meryl.

She added: "But you say Meryl and everybody falls on the floor.”
Sharon later clarified on Twitter after she faced some divided commentary online what she meant when she called out Hollywood's treatment of actresses.
Sharon tweeted on Wednesday: "To be clear; Meryl Streep is one of the greatest actors of all times. Just not to the exclusion of others. Sharon Stone".
She later added: "What I actually spoke about yesterday was SINGLE PARENT ADOPTION RIGHTS IN ITALY. The Meryl story is just a political distraction from reality."

One Twitter user supported Sharon, noting: "This is not about Meryl Streep, but how the film industry works".
"That is a very true and correct statement!!," penned another follower of the actress.
One fan concluded: "Actresses just need to stop being compared to each other."
