Jadon Sancho is currently with the England squad at Euro 2020

Manchester United have made an improved offer worth €85 million (£72.6m) for the Borussia Dortmund and England winger Jadon Sancho.

United’s new bid – a £7.7m increase on their opening offer for Sancho – is still less than Dortmund’s €95m valuation but there is a growing expectation now that a deal will be done.

Sancho has been a great success at Dortmund. He has scored 50 goals and claimed 64 assists in 137 appearances for the Bundesliga club.

If Sancho does complete a move to United, that is likely to ensure Erling Haaland remains at Dortmund for at least another season with the German side adamant they will not sell two of their most prized assets in the same summer.

Sancho is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting young talents, even if he has endured a frustrating time at the European Championship with England so far this summer.

The former Manchester City winger finally got off the substitutes’ bench to play the last six minutes in England’s 1-0 win over Czech Republic at Wembley on Tuesday night but his hopes of a more prominent role have yet to be realised.

City had a 15 per cent sell-on clause on any profit made from Sancho’s future sale inserted in the deal that took him from the Etihad Stadium to Dortmund for £8m in 2017.

Unless there has been a change to the terms of that clause, City could stand to net as much as £10.98m should Dortmund receive their full asking price of £81.2m for Sancho.
