A man has been charged with the murder of his own mum after she was found with stab wounds on Sunday afternoon.

Kim Dearden was found inside a property with stab wounds after emergency services were called after concerns for her welfare were reported shortly after noon on Sunday.

Police attended a home in Oakfield Close, Potters Bar and found the 63-year-old woman with serious stab wounds.

The ambulance service tried to save the woman's life, but she died at the scene.

Her next of kin have been informed.

Her son, Charles Dearden, of Oakfield Close, Potters Bar, was charged with murdering his mother.

The 31-year-old was remanded into custody to appear at Hatfield Magistrates' Court today.

A murder investigation was launched by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit and a man was arrested shortly afterwards.

A scene guard remains in place in Oakfield Close while enquiries continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Langford said: “Our thoughts are with Kim’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“A murder investigation is being led by the BCH Major Crime Unit and we would appeal for any witnesses or anyone who has information about what happened to contact us.”
