Southampton and Newcastle are interested in taking Manchester United defender Brandon Williams on loan ahead of the new season.

The youngster is reportedly open to time away from the Red Devils as he only made 14 appearances in the 20-21 campaign due to the arrival of Alex Telles and the good form of Luke Shaw.

A loan to Southampton for the full-back is a "possibility", according to talkSport, and Newcastle have him on a shortlist of candidates.

However, these aren't the only clubs looking to try and get him to have a spell at their side as newly promoted Norwich City and West Ham are also said to have thrown their hat in the ring.

And it's clear to see why sides want to sign him as the 20-year-old has already won caps for England at Under-20 and U21 level.

Williams joined United at the age of seven and has risen through the ranks of their academy.

His loan is just one of many deals being arranged behind the scenes at Old Trafford as the club look to bolster their squad ahead of the 21-22 season.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still on the hunt for his first trophy since taking over the club in 2018 after coming close last term with a second place Premier League finish and losing the Europa League final to Villarreal.

Among the club's targets is Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho and Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane.

While the Sancho deal seems to be progressing, United's rivals Manchester City reportedly put in a £100m bid for Kane on Monday.

However, any deal surrounding the England captain is not likely to happen while the team is still in the Euros.

The tournament runs to July 11 and Gareth Southgate's side have just qualified for the last 16 with a game to spare.

England defeated Croatia 1-0 and drew 0-0 with Scotland to land their spot in the knock-out stage.

They will face the Czech Republic on Tuesday evening but stars Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount will not feature for England as they are in self-isolation after coming into close contact with Scotland's Billy Gilmour who tested positive for Covid.

The Three Lions confirmed the news on Tuesday morning.

In a statement they wrote: "We can confirm that Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount must isolate up to and including next Monday [28 June]. This decision has been taken in consultation with Public Health England.

"The pair were confirmed overnight as close contacts of Scotland’s Billy Gilmour after his positive COVID-19 test following last Friday’s match.

"Chilwell and Mount will isolate and train individually in private areas at England’s training base St. George’s Park, with the rest of the squad returning there after tonight’s fixture against Czech Republic at Wembley.

"We will continue to follow all COVID-19 protocols and the UEFA testing regime, while remaining in close contact with PHE.

"The entire England squad and staff had lateral flow tests on Monday and all were again negative, as was the case with Sunday’s UEFA pre-match PCR tests.

"Further tests will be carried out as and when appropriate."
