Beverley Callard has announced that she has plans to go under the knife.

And the former Corrie star – who played Liz McDonald on the ITV soap for 30 years – has decided to book in a plastic surgery appointment in order to keep her acting career thriving, she claims.

The I'm A Celeb personality, 64, says she needs to get a facelift to keep her casting opportunities open as the "industry is so sexist and ageist."

Beverley told The Sun : "I am going to do it, yes. It's difficult because our industry is so sexist and ageist, still."

Explaining how she is worried about not working, she added: "How many films do you see where the husband is 50 and the wife is 30? It happens all the time.

"The wives are usually stuck insects, they are gorgeous, their faces don't move. I'm just going to join that because I'm scared of not getting work."

The Yorkshire native also added that her family are not for her altering her visage and have urged her to not go ahead with the surgery.

She also confessed and that she is also "absolutely terrified" about going under the knife as she is "a coward."

During the interview, the blonde also admitted that she is so unhappy with her appearance that she "hates mirrors" and says she never looks at snaps of herself or watched any of her TV appearances in the last 15 years.

It comes after the soap sensation revealed that she was axed from a special episode of Coronation Street because of her struggles with her mental health after she bravely spoke openly about her battle with clinical depression.

In March, she alleged that Corrie bosses used this as a reason for Liz not to feature in the show's 50th anniversary episodes.

Speaking on Melanie Blake's YouTube series Girl Talk, Beverley said: "I had returned to work and I was filming virtually every scene every day because the McDonalds were involved in a storyline.

The actress says she has made the decision in order to get more work

"Then a man said to me, you are not going to be involved in the 50th storyline of Coronation Street's birthday, because you've had clinical depression you may be flaky and unreliable."

She said she wouldn't be treated this way if she was a man.

Beverley added: "Men are treated differently, completely differently.

"A man can tell someone off on set and say I am not accepting this, it will be fine.

"But if a woman does that then the whispers will go round and say that 'so and so is a bit of a diva.'

"That's so not true, I've heard it said about female co-stars of mine but they never say it about the men."

Beverley quit Corrie in 2019 after 30 years in the ITV soap.

Her exit was announced by Liz' son Steve (Simon Gregson) revealing in a throwaway comment that she'd emigrated to Spain.

She never got to shoot her final scenes after a hip operation.
