Peter Andre has admitted he made a mistake after sharing a video of his daughter swimming with dolphins on holiday in Portugal..

Last week, the dad documented the emotional moment his daughter Princess, 13, was told she was going to join the animals in the water.

Princess was seen sobbing as she told how swimming with dolphins was on her 'bucket list' in the clip posted to her dad's Instagram and YouTube pages.

Days later, dad Peter returned to social media saying 'you live and learn' as he revealed he'd received a letter from animals rights group PETA informing him of the grim life dolphins in captivity are subjected to.

"This all started with my daughter having a dream to swim with dolphins," began the apologetic star.

"But I've since had a letter from the People of the Ethical Treatment of Animals – or PETA – and they've said that they've seen our YouTube video and they know I'm someone who cares about animals but they really want to share some information about swim with dolphins programmes that I may not be aware of.

"I wasn't aware of what I'm about to read and I'm sure millions of people aren't. I'm sure there are some people that are… but I certainly didn't.

"What they go on to tell me is about the treatment of dolphins in these enclosures.

"Reading through I've said, 'Right that's it i'm going to take the video down'. Which I'm doing now," he added.

"We are gong to re-edit the video. We are going to put a brand new thumbnail up. People can see the video without seeing any dolphins in captivity.

"What you will see however, is dolphins swimming in the wild which is beautiful.

"We live and learn don't we?" said Peter.

In the caption Peter admitted that 'change is good' and he was happy to follow the advice from the animals right group and do better.

A spokesperson for PETA then replied to the singer thanking him for following up on their request for him to take the clips down.

"Once we know better, we can do better. Thank you for your honesty and your openness to being educated about these facilities. We’re so grateful to you for helping to spread the word," they said.

PETA's website explains that dolphins in captivity die younger than those in the wild due to the misery of living in cramped pools.

Last week, Peter raised eyebrows after sharing a video of the moment he told his eldest daughter she would be swimming with dolphins during a family holiday to Portugal.

He told the camera: "My lovely daughter Princess has always dreamed of swimming with dolphins and I was supposed to do it for her birthday last year but it didn't happen because of lockdown and everything.

"So I've brought her here today and she has no idea that she is going to meet a dolphin face to face."

Princess was then seen covering her mouth in shock as her dad filled her in on the surprise.

The teenager then burst into tears as Peter gave her a comforting hug.

In the video Princess was seen in the pool swimming beside the creatures and petting them in other scenes.
