They've had more than their fair share of knocks – but nothing can keep the Nolans down.

Linda Nolan has sadly had to pull out of her role in new musical Girls Just Wanna Have Fun as she battles her incurable secondary cancer.

So she ensured the role now goes to sister Maureen, who turned 67 on Monday.

Maureen, one of four Nolan sisters who previously starred in the West End show Blood Brothers, said: “I wish the circumstances were different, but I’m delighted to be joining this fabulous, fun production.

"I’m really looking forward to going on the road and performing to live audiences. It’s been far too long!”

Linda, 62, had signed up to the project before its original 2020 schedule was postponed by the first lockdown.

She then learned her cancer, which had returned as secondary breast cancer in 2017, was now in her liver.

She endured chemo alongside sister Anne , 70, whose breast cancer returned 20 years after her first diagnosis.

But although Anne is now clear, Linda’s cancer is incurable, with continual treatment needed to manage it. She fears travelling around the UK with the musical will just be too much for her.

The tour starts in Telford, Shropshire, in September and is a celebration of female anthems including the Cyndi Lauper hit of its title the Nolan Sisters classic I’m in the Mood For Dancing.

Tickets are on sale now at

Linda said: “I’m gutted that I can’t do the tour. I was really excited but I know Maureen will do an amazing job.

“If anyone is going to take my place, I’m delighted that it’s Maureen. I’ll be cheering her on in the wings and dancing in the aisles!”
