Apart from all the enormous privileges they get, celebrities are really just like the rest of us, right?

When it comes down to it, they're either dog people or cat people.

From Taylor Swift to Ed Sheeran and Ricky Gervais, Instagram is littered with celebrities cuddling up to their cats.

Scroll through the images below for some truly adorable selfies of moggies with their A-list owners, as they discuss the importance of National Cat Day, wear cat-themed clothing and announce they've left sizeable chunks to their moggies in their wills.

Taylor Swift

Karl left a portion of his money to his cat when he passed away

Taylor must be an avid TV drama watcher, as both of her cats are named after characters from popular shows.

There's Doctor Meredith Grey, named after the lead character in Grey's Anatomy, and Detective Olivia Benson, named after a character on Law & Order: SVU.

Perhaps Tay knew these cats would be trouble when they walked in: when she appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2014, she revealed she's renamed Olivia 'Dibbles' as she's "like a scrappy like cat."

We're not sure why Dibbles means scrappy, but you stay safe out there Taylor…

Karl Lagerfield's feline heir is Choupette, the gorgeous birman cat who often posed with the fashion designer on shoots.

In his will, he left money to her but insisted: "Don't worry, there is enough for everyone."

Karl was believed to have amassed a £153 million fortune during his career, which peaked when the designer became creative director for Chanel and Fendi.

Ed Sheeran

Taylor's cat doesn't look too impressed

Ed said "you need me, man," when he adopted his cat Graham – as he saved the feline from being put down, the singer explained in a post on Twitter.

"So basically this one month old kitten was gonna get put down," Ed said, posting his update next a a pic of him with Graham on his shoulder. "So I adopted him and called him Graham. Just bought Graham a bed and snacks."

Cee Lo Green

Maybe he's crazy, but then again, maybe his cat really is Purrfect: either way, that's what the singer and reality show judge has named his pet pooch.

Purrfect would often be spotted accompanying CeeLo to the set of The Voice while he was a coach, and he even posed with the giant white fluffy moggie in promotional shots for the series.

Staring straight into the camera with arms locked around the white feline, he's giving off strong James Bond villain vibes…

The actor and comic often posts pics of his cats on his Instagram account, many times with him peering strangely into the camera behind them, or with them.

This May Russell shared a video of three tiny new kittens playing with a dog called Bear, grabbing at his tail as he tried to eat.

"Are they bullying you?!" Russell asks as the dog flees the scene, leaving more food for the kittens.

Earlier in the year Russell tweeted more pics of the litter and said: "We're keeping em. All of em."

Russell's cats seem to be pretty involved in his lifestyle – he's also shared pictures doing "cat yoga" with one of them perched on his lap while he pulls a yoga move, with the cat looking slightly confused.

Miley Cyrus

Well framed: Russell peering over his pet cat

Miley is basically an animal whisperer: she has a vast collection of dogs, cats and even a pig.

At latest count, Miley has at least four cats: Lilo, Kiki and Harlem, according to the Miley Cyrus Fandom page, and Shanti, who has her own Instagram page.

Check out @shantiombb for endless cute photos of Shanti and plenty of weird cat memes.

In one, Miley's got white cream all over her face and that cat's hanging out in the background. The singer's captioned the photo: "Spot treatments with mommy."

Ricky Gervais

Ricky is an outspoken animal rights activist and often speaks about issues to do with animal welfare on his social media platforms.

He balances that with cute selfies together with his cat trying to jump into his bathtub, staring at passing bees and "chilling" in a very uncomfortable-looking pose on the bottom of the staircase.

Sadly Ollie passed away in 2020, but he and wife Jane announced the arrival of their new cat Pickle shortly after.

"She keeps getting on my lap and staring at me. We’re keeping her," he wrote on social media about the foster cat.

Recently the After Life actor shared a poster from the film Save Ralph, a mockumentary raising points about animal abuse, and captioned it: "Animal Testing is cruel & it doesn’t work."

Isla Fisher

Ricky with his cat Ollie

The actor and partner to Sacha Baron Baron is a strong believer in equality between dogs and cats.

No, seriously. In 2018 she shared an image of her on the couch with her cat and spoke about how cats deserve their own day, shortly after National Dog Day, as they were "worshipped in Ancient Egypt".

A strong and compelling argument. Maybe you could set up National Cat Day yourself, Isla Fischer? We're on board already. (Hang on, isn't there a National Cat Day already, on October 29 in the States?)

Martha Stewart

Isla Fischer wants cats to have their own national day

Martha shares images with her dogs and horses as well as her cats, at her home, and on her farm.

The cook and lifestyle guru has even set up a part of her website all about the animals she's looked after over the years.

On the landing page, there are a selection of articles all about cats, from cats that are perfect for dog owners to articles about the scientific reason cats always land on their feet.

Jonathan Van Ness

Food and lifestyle guru Martha Stewart with her cat

Jonathan unveiled his two new cats on Instagram recently wearing a 'Kitten Lady' shirt for the occasion.

Since 2019, cats Lady G, Larry, Liza and Matilda frequently appear in silly videos on the Queer Eye actor's Instagram page.

"We’re now a 5 cat, 1 dog house," the actor shared earlier this year. "I haven’t felt like my family was complete since losing my lil Bug in 2019 plus I finally got @marklondon to say yes to a fifth and final cat our fam is officially full!!"

Kate Beckinsale

Jonathan Van Ness is a big cat lover

Kate's cats Clive and Willow have their own purpose-built cat house, complete with wallpaper, mini windows and even little cardboard shelves to store their things on.

We're not sure how many trinkets cats own, but their cat doll's house (which is basically what it is) is absolutely adorable.

Kate, who has roughly half her Instagram grid dedicated to her cats, has a pic on her grid showing her cats hanging out in her kitchen captioned "dinner is served."

Luckily, some weird proportions are all that's at play here – the cats aren't really being picked up by the prongs, don't worry…
