Arsenal reportedly remain in the race to sign Eduardo Camavinga, with the Rennes midfielder adamant he will not sign a new contract with the club.

Camavinga is one of the most highly sought after youngsters in European football, having broken into their first team aged just 16.

He has made 82 appearances in the last three seasons, but is now widely expected to move on with just one year remaining on his current deal.

Rennes had of course hoped to keep their academy graduate, but are becoming increasingly resigned to the fact that his heart is set on a move elsewhere.

French news outlet Le10Sport claim that if a new contract isn’t finalised by June 28, Rennes will actively look to sell him in order to recoup some transfer fee for their star asset.

The report adds that Arsenal are “pushing to try to secure his services”, although his preference is a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

The French giants have been keeping close tabs on Camavinga for a number of years and the player himself is said to be desperate to play at the Parc des Princes.

The 18-year-old wants to continue developing in French football and so sees a move to PSG as the best for his career.

The player’s agent Jonathan Barnett has already confirmed the race for his client is set to be a hotly contested one, with a host of Europe’s top clubs interested.

"Believe me we have a lot of offers for this year, a lot of offers, and good ones," he said last month.

“I mean top, top clubs. We don’t want to rush. There is the right time to move on and playing games is the most important thing at his age.

"Playing in a good club is nice for him. It might be this year, or he wants to have another year. He has got to talk to his family, his father.

"We will all sit down and decide. We will talk to Rennes as well and decide. There is no rush for him.

"He’s probably the best young player in the world. He has just turned 18. He has already been a French international. He’s an unbelievable talent.

“He could play in any team in the world. He is still going to be a great talent at 19. It’s not that old, you know, 19."

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has pinpointed a new central midfielder as one of his transfer priorities this summer, particularly with Granit Xhaka nearing a move to Roma.

Arteta has accepted that his squad needs changing in the wake of a poor season last time around and is hopeful that the Kroenkes will back him accordingly.
