Susan Sarandon has looked back at her time spent filming Thelma & Louise as the movie's 30th anniversary approaches.

And it's safe to say the 74-year-old star has fond memories of working alongside Brad Pitt.

The actress admits that the film was "fun" to be a part of but she never thought it was reach the classic status it has achieved.

Speaking in an interview with Extra, the leading lady said: "I just thought it was so fun, we were kind of like a cowboy movie except with women and trucks instead of horses and guys."

The film saw Susan play the role of Louise, while Geena Davis took up the spot as Thelma as the pair embarked on a road trip that quickly became a crime spree.

Brad, 57, played the part of a cowboy drifter in what was one of his first on-screen roles.

And Susan says that his performance surprised her.

She said: "When I saw the film, the part that really impressed me, in addition to his good looks and great body, was his sense of humour because he really fleshed that part out in a way that wasn't necessarily in the script.

"I thought, 'Ah, this guy's interesting, you know, he's not just a really gorgeous face.'"

She continued: "He took it as a character part and as we can see from his career, he really continued to push the envelope in ways that he really didn't have to when you look like that."

The comments follow co-star Geena's gushing remarks in February last year when she admitted the actor "just has it".

She told PEOPLE after Brad's first Oscar win: "I could tell when he was auditioning that he was super talented.

"He has done so many incredible things over the years. I don't think that it is unusual for him to be honoured.

"He really is the 'star' of the moment, which is fabulous, and it is just great to see."

Brad has been in a custody battle for his kids with Angelina Jolie recently.

The actress reportedly said earlier in the month that she will "never forgive" him over the fierce battle the pair were embroiled in for five years.

They were both granted joint custody of their kids following a long courtroom fight.

Private judge John Ouderkirk, who was overseeing the case, ruled in Brad's favour which reportedly left Angelina "bitterly disappointed".

The duo share their kids Maddox, 19, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 14, as well as twins Vivienne and Knox, 12.
