Love Island star Michael Griffiths had to be rushed to hospital over the weekend after a bout of hay fever left him struggling to breathe.

The 29-year-old reality regular was filming his MTV show Living The Dream when he felt his "throat close up" and it left him in a panic.

Fearing the worst, Michael enlisted the help of room mate and fellow Love Island star Danny Williams to take him to A&E.

Speaking on his Instagram Story on Monday, he said: "So, as you can tell my voice has gone back to normal, but I’ll give you a little update.

"My hay fever was so bad yesterday it was like my throat closed up. I did go to A&E thanks to Danny there, who took me to A&E. They quoted a six-hour wait. I mean, my throat’s closing up.

"Anyway, they sent an ambulance, the paramedic called me, and then she said that I was of no concern – no imminent concern of harm – so she told me to just go to bed and chill out.

"So I took another antihistamine and I woke up like this. Oh yeah, it’s back."

Captioning his Story, the TV star wrote: "I did have to sleep sat up though as recommended by the paramedic & my sister."

Despite his worry, Michael appeared in better spirits on Tuesday as he headed to the gym for a workout.

Michael's bad bout of hay fever isn't unusual given its the that time of year where many suffer from the high levels of pollen in the air.

Hay fever becomes worse when the weather is warm, humid or windy. With symptoms of hay fever varying from person to person, some can suffer with very mild symptoms whereas others can have severe reactions like Michael.

People who have asthma can also experience a few other symptoms if they have hay fever. These include: a tight feeling in the chest, short of breath or wheezing and coughing.

The Liverpudlian is currently shooting his MTV show, Living The Dream, with pals Chris Taylor, Jordan Hames and Danny Williams, who he met during 2019’s Love Island.

The foursome moved into an Essex-based bachelor pad when lockdown restrictions started to ease last year and began filming their series, which began airing in October.

Speaking out about their show at the time, Michael told OK! Magazine : "We’re not exactly strangers to filming ourselves and being on camera and now MTV is giving us the chance to film our own show; giving viewers unfiltered access into parts of our lives you wouldn’t see every day.

"Living with the boys has been a laugh and we can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve been up to."
