Police are hunting the scooter driver who mowed down Lisa Banes in a hit-and-run.

The Gone Girl star died on Monday after sustaining severe injuries when she was struck by an electric scooter. She was 65-years-old.

Lisa was on her way to meet her wife for a dinner party on the Upper West Side in New York City, according to reports.

Witnesses said the scooter rider went through a red light and then fled after knocking Lisa over on a crosswalk.

The film star suffered a traumatic brain injury and had been in critical care at Mount Sinai Morningside hospital before she died.

An NYPD spokesperson said on Monday night that no arrests had been made but they continue to search for the driver.

The Mirror has approached the NYPD and is awaiting further comment.

Lisa was best known for playing Marybeth Elliott in Gone Girl, the mother of Rosamund Pike's character Amy Dunne.

She also starred in other blockbusters including 80s classics Cocktail and Young Guns.

Her TV roles including starring in Star Trek as Doctor Renhol, and episodes of Deep Space Nine, Murder She Wrote, Frasier, Six Feet Under, and Nashville.

Confirming the tragic news, a representative for Lisa Entertainment Tonight : "We are heartsick over Lisa's tragic and senseless passing.

"She was a woman of great spirit, kindness and generosity and dedicated to her work, whether on stage or in front of a camera and even more so to her wife, family and friends.

"We were blessed to have had her in our lives."

At the time of the horrific accident, Lisa's wife Kathryn Kranhold told The New York Post: "Lisa is in critical condition and we'll know more in the next few days."

Following her death, Lisa's good friend, singer Jill Sobule paid tribute to her on Twitter.

Jill wrote: "Just busted. Lisa Banes was magnificent, hilarious, and big-hearted – always helped me though the hard times.

"She was so beloved by so many."
