A private jet company which likens itself to Uber Pool is offering seats on a chartered jet for a fraction of their original – admittedly very steep – costs.
Dutch charter firm Hyer Aviation is launching a new operation from Biggin Hill Airport in south London and Farnborough Airport in Hampshire next month.
Customers can share international and domestic flights with others eager to get away, meaning tickets to get onboard are much less than chartering a whole jet by yourself.
A shared trip from Biggin Hill to Edinburgh will cost about £1,440 per passenger – a route which takes around an hour and costs roughly £50 with easyJet.
Compared to chartering a whole plane from the English to Scottish capital – which typically costs £8,000 – Hyer's price is a bargain.

Those looking further afield can hire a Hyer to Cannes for £1,225 per person, Ibiza for £1,800 and Malaga for £2,175.
Hyer describes its service as "like an extra-comfortable UberPool with wings" and will begin operating from its two new destinations next month.

The firm is looking to take advantage of a spike in demand for private jets during the pandemic, partially caused by complicated arrival and departure policies, as well as long queues at commercial airfields.
Air Charter Services said bookings for leisure trips by private jet had increased by a quarter in April compared with the same time in 2019, before the pandemic.

In the 24 hours before India was put on the UK's red list some people paid as much as £100,000 for a nine-hour flight into the country, The Times reported.,
Helder Reis, director of customer experience at Hyer, told the publication: “When you share the cost of flying private among seven passengers, it becomes more appealing and fits in the budget of more people.”
The company uses aircraft including the ten-seat Embraer Phenom 300, with seven passengers required for the service to be viable.

Before reaching for your credit card and splashing the cash on a Hyer flight, it's worth considering the environmental impact of catching a private jet.
According to Compare Private Planes, flying from London to Ibiza on a Phenom 300 will produce 5.32 tonnes of carbon, which will accelerate the rate of global heating.
A passenger on a commercial flight produces just 137kg for the same journey.
Hyer insisted that it offset all emissions by buying credits for projects such as tree planting.
