A mother has paid tribute to her three-year-old boy, who died when he fell from a third-story window and was then mauled by his family's pet dogs, according to reports.

Nasha Soto said her son had been her "angel".

The toddler, who has not been named, is understood to have fallen ten feet before being attacked by the two dogs in New Jersey, US on Wednesday.

Ms Soto, a 23-year-old mother-of-three, wrote on Facebook : "The worst thing that a parent can go through is having to give their sweet Angel back to Heaven".

The post on Friday appeared beside a drawing of a baby angel, according to The Daily Mail.

It is not known if the toddler died as a result of the dog attack or the fall.

Police found the boy in a critical condition in the back garden of his house. He suffered a neck injury from the fall and dog bites on his body, reports said.

He was taken to hospital but died within an hour of the tragedy in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Friends and family have posted messages of support on Facebook.

"Sending my condolences and prayers to you and your family,' one friend wrote.

"May God give you the strength with in to find some type of comfort especially for your babies. Never forget that you have the most precious angel in heaven. May his little soul rest in paradise."

Another friend said: "May beautiful memories bring you peace during this difficult time. So sorry for your loss, here for you always."

The dogs, which neighbours claimed were pit bulls, were taken away and officials are planning to euthanise them, according to reports.

No criminal charges have been filed, it is understood.

Neighbour Maria Rocha told CBS New York: "The dogs were bad, the dogs, everybody was scared of the dogs.

"As soon as the baby fell, the dogs attack him.

"My heart is broken. I didn't sleep all night. I cannot believe this happened."

Another neighbour, who remained anonymous, also described the dogs as aggressive.

The back garden, where the dogs were, is said to be surrounded by a fence.
