Former Emmerdale stars Chelsea Halfpenny and James Baxter have announced their engagement.

The actress played Amy Wyatt in the soap from 2010 to 2013 but never shared scenes with James, who played Dales heartthrob Jake Doland from 2006 to 2009.

Now Chelsea, 28, has taken to Instagram on Sunday to reveal that she and James, 30, are now due to get married after he proposed that day.

Chelsea posted a selfie of the pair of them looking ecstatic on her Instagram account with a gold band with a green jewel on her ring finger visible to her followers.

She captioned the post: "He liked it so he went and put a friggin ring on it!!!!!!!!"
