England made a winning start to their Euro 2020 campaign as the Three Lions beat Croatia 1-0 at Wembley.
Raheem Sterling scored the only goal of the game in the second half after a sensational run and pass from Kalvin Phillips.
Sterling buried from close range to justify his selection in the starting XI as he sealed a first-ever win in the opening game of a European Championship for England.
Phil Foden had gone close to breaking the deadlock early in the first half as his effort cannoned back off the post.
But Southgate's side didn't let their heads drop and were duly rewarded as Sterling struck the winner after the break.

A worryingly sliced clearance in the first half but in the main a decent first game for the Everton keeper.
Not his best game by a long shot. Misplaced first half passes to both Trippier and Foden, the latter in what could have been a good position.
Composed as usual. Stepped out of defence on a couple of occasions to break up attacks and to begin a couple of ours.
Good, important interception to deny Ivan Perisic, homing in on goal late in the first half. Did well to prevent Rebic robbing him early in the second.

Had a few hearts in mouths with his weak header back to Pickford but Rebic couldn’t react quickly enough.
Here to stay. Surely. Our midfield enforcer whose tough tackling and timely interceptions made him Man of the Match – even before his terrific run and assist for the goal.
Always grafting. Always looking to do the dirty work to provide the platform for our attacking players to express themselves.
A wonderful left-footed strike from inside the Croatian box which would have brought the house down but for the post. Fine game.
Good movement, efficient with his passing. Just not able to hurt the Croats who settled into the game after an uneasy first 20 minutes.
Wonderful finish to ghost into the box and finish off Kalvin Phillips’ through ball. Terrific finish to silence his doubters.
Quiet against a Croatia team able to nullify the supply line to him. But it's a long tournament. He’ll be back.
Rashford for Foden (71) 6
Bellingham for Kane (82) 6
Calvert-Lewin for Sterling (90)
