David De Gea is reportedly “in the dark” about his Manchester United future, with crunch talks planned with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Spaniard has been the undoubted No.1 at Old Trafford ever since his arrival from Atletico Madrid a decade ago.

However, Solskjaer opted to name Dean Henderson as his Premier League starter as the 20/21 season wound to an end.

The two vying for the spot alternated with neither completely confirming their status as the long-term option.

De Gea was given the nod for the Europa League final, although his night in Gdansk ended in heartbreak after failing to save any of Villarreal's 11 penalties and missing the decisive spot kick himself.

David De Gea and Dean Henderson were alternated in the final weeks of the season

That led to many believing Henderson could be the option going into next season, with Solskjaer admitting that he would need to make a final decision in the coming weeks.

“It’s been a strange season with regards to goalkeeping. At United most of the time we’ve had a No. 1 who has been playing most of the games,” the Norwegian said last month.

“We brought Dean back to challenge David and he’s had a very good season.

“David flew home for the birth of his baby which gave Dean a longer run in the team and he really played well and established himself as a very good goalkeeper. He’s learnt a lot from it.

“But David is David. He’s really played well, buckled down and really taken on the challenge.

“I’m really pleased with the two of them, it’s difficult to have that kind of rotation, you don’t rotate that much normally, I’ll have to find a solution for next year definitely.”

According to ESPN, De Gea is still unsure of Solskjaer’s final decision and is planning to return to Old Trafford at the end of Spain’s Euro 2020 campaign.

Once he returns to Carrington he will hold candid talks with Solskjaer to establish what his role will look like in the coming seasons.

The report adds that if Henderson is named as the undisputed starter, De Gea will look to secure a move away, with his preference being on remaining at the highest level.
