Mikel Arteta has already identified four replacements ahead of a busy summer for Arsenal this transfer window.
The Spaniard's predecessor, Unai Emery, infamously installed a 'captain's group' of several leaders in the dressing room, a system kept on when Arteta took over.
But Emery's group has been gradually dismantled, with former skipper Granit Xhaka the latest set to depart with a move to AS Roma on the cards.
The Swiss midfielder looks set to leave for £17m but he is not the only one, with Alexandre Lacazette and Hector Bellerin also linked with moves away.
Mesut Ozil has already left, when he departed for Fenerbahce in January on a free transfer.

It means that Arsenal are set for a major summer of change with a number of players coming in and going out.
But Arteta wants some of his current crop to step up and take more responsibility with Football London reporting that Kieran Tierney could become one of his potential captain options.
The Scotsman wore the armband at Celtic while David Luiz's departure leaves a leadership void in the back four.

Arteta said about the left-back: "He has the respect and the admiration of every member of the staff and every player.
"It’s just the way he is, he does it in a natural way. He’s a shy boy but I think he represents all of the values we want to install and that are in the DNA of this club.
"He came here and it took him a while, he had a really bad injury… but he’s a natural leader.

"You see how he behaves on that pitch, and when he talks he says the right thing and it’s exactly what we’re looking for."
The other three options to step up and become Arteta's leaders might surprise some fans with Pablo Mari also set for more of a prominent role in the squad.
Calum Chambers and Mohamed Elneny are in the frame, too, due to their long years of service to the club despite never truly becoming stars.
It remains to be seen who Arteta will try and sign in the transfer window.
But there are several players being linked, including RB Leipzig star Tyler Adams while the USA International can play at right-back and in defensive midfield.
Brighton star Yves Bissouma is also on the shortlist as the Gunners look to beef up their midfield with Xhaka leaving.
