A man has died after being knifed in the chest in a "terrifying" broad daylight attack in south London.

More than a dozen police cars reportedly descended on Prentis Road, Streatham, this afternoon following the incident at around 4.16pm.

Officers found the victim with a stab wound to his chest, the Met has confirmed.

He was rushed to hospital in central London but was pronounced dead a short time later, reports MyLondon.

A huge cordon remains in place, with eye witness reports claiming an air ambulance also landed in Tooting Common.

The crime scene is believed to be near the Royal Mail sorting office.

A dad who lives nearby and was walking home with his daughter said he and his child rushed back home as soon as they could.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Police were called at approximately 4.16pm on Thursday, June 10 to Prentis Road, SW16 to reports of stabbing.

"Officers and the London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended the scene and found a man with a stab wound to the chest.

"He was taken to a hospital in Central London where he was pronounced dead at 4.51pm.
