Ex-Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has revealed his Fantasy Football team ahead of the upcoming European Championship, which kick-offs on Friday.

Turkey vs Italy in Rome gets the much-anticipated tournament underway, with the likes of France, England and Belgium among the favourites to win the whole thing.

UEFA have released a version of the popular online game Fantasy Football for the competition, in which contestants pick a squad of players they believe will shine.

And England fans will be intrigued to see Manchester City youngster Phil Foden among Ozil's selections.

In goal Ozil plumped for his old Gunners teammate Wojciech Szczesny, who now plays for Juventus and will be representing Poland in the Euros.

Two Premier League players were included in the defence, with Chelsea's Antonio Rudiger (Germany) and Oleksandr Zinchenko of City (Ukraine) among the picks, with Portugal veteran Pepe the final man at the back.

The City theme continued into midfield, with their former winger Leroy Sane (Germany) in there, along with Foden, promising Turkish midfielder Halil Dervisoglu and West Ham's Tomas Soucek (Czech Republic).

Ozil opted for three up top, with Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), Alvaro Morata (Spain) and Karim Benzema (France) selected.

There were two further Turkish players on his bench in goalkeeper Altay Bayindir and midfielder Irfan Kahveci, while making up the squad were Spain and City winger Ferran Torres and Hungarian forward Adam Szalai.

Alongside his team, which he posted on social media, Ozil wrote: "My fantasy football team for UEFA @EURO2020. What do you all think? Who’s beating me?"

It is interesting to see that Ozil is confident Foden will feature prominently for England, with much debate over which offensive players should start for the Three Lions.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, another former England prodigy in Michael Owen stated his belief that Foden's confidence and self-belief will see him take the tournament by storm.

"I think Foden is special, he's different," he said. "I think we are talking about someone that could be a great, he could be world class.

"His strength is the way he moves, his first touch. It's all effortless, the way he glides into the game. A lot of people take a touch and then move. Everything he does is so easy on the eye.

"His decision making, his ability to score goals, to assist goals, he oozes class and sometimes a player comes along every generation.

"The benefit of being a young player in these tournaments is you are absolutely fearless.

"You've never had a setback in your life, you've been the best at under-10, under-12, under-14, under-16, under-18, you've broken all the records. You're just a bloody good player."
