A famous TikTok monkey named George with 17 million followers died after going for a dental check-up.
The 12-year-old monkey – who had over 500,000 followers on Instagram – was having a routine checkup on his teeth when he passed away.
He goes by heresyourmonkeycontent on social media and died on June 7 after suffering complications from anaesthesia.
George was living with a couple in Texas for the last 10 years and, in an emotional statement, his owners wrote: "We have some devastating news. George went to the vet for a regular check up on his teeth. During, there were complications with the anesthesia, starting a long fight for his life.
"Through the fight, George was sent thousands of thoughts and prayers with the hope that he would make it."

They continued: "George was light when things seemed dark. And he was a reminder of the love that exists in all of us.
“Though the fun-loving life of George has left, his spirit of hope and love lives on. We love you, George.”
His fans took to the comment section to pay their respects following the tragic news.
"Omg awful news," one user commented while another said: "Rest In Peace little bro."

One Instagram user posted: "This doesn't seem real. I'm so sorry for your loss."
Another commented: "George, you had the power to make everyone happy and laugh when they were down. Such a loving little soul. My thoughts especially to his immediate family. Such sad news. Can't believe it."
A lot of the monkey's TikTok content included opening all the gifts and fan mail he received from followers.
He receives all types of presents including snacks, fan art, stickers and some toys to play with.
A decade ago, he joined the family as an emotional support animal for someone in the family who has a painful nerve disorder called CRPS.
