Manchester United have been hit by a double transfer blow to their hopes of signing Harry Kane and Jack Grealish in the summer window.

United are targeting both a new striker and a new winger as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to build a squad to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title.

Though they tied Edinson Cavani down to a new deal, the Red Devils are still expected to bring in a new forward who is a more regular goalscorer.

Winger has also long been a problem position for Solskjaer and though Jadon Sancho is one option that is being explored, alternatives may be needed if a deal is again tough to finalise.

Kane and Grealish have emerged as options to fill those gaps in Solskjaer’s squad, with both players linked with moves to Old Trafford.

The former is edging closer towards a departure from Tottenham after reportedly telling the club he wants to leave to win trophies.

But while signing Kane would immediately turn United into title contenders, they are facing competition from several top European clubs.

Manchester City and Chelsea are both also in the market for a new forward, with Pep Guardiola’s side currently the frontrunners.

City allowed Sergio Aguero to depart the club on a free transfer, with Gabriel Jesus’ future at the Etihad Stadium also certain.

Chris Kamara feels that Kane is the perfect man to replace Aguero, potentially dealing a blow to United’s hopes of completing a move.

“I don’t think there’s a Spurs fan who will begrudge him going away to seek medals. I really don’t, I think it’s a different scenario,” Kamara said.

“I think one of the Manchester clubs would welcome his ability and with Aguero going, he looks the obvious choice.

“You can’t be top scorer in the Premier League season after season and show your golden boot to everyone, you’ve got to show your golden boot and your medals as well.”

Kamara also handed a blow to United’s pursuit of Grealish, insisting the midfielder is content with life at Aston Villa.

The former Premier League player and manager also questioned if Grealish is in the best form for United to go in search of a move, revealing his belief that City player Phil Foden is currently playing better than him.

“I know Jack’s quite happy at Aston Villa so another season wouldn’t worry him at all,” he added.

“Because of his injury that he’s had, he isn’t where he was three months ago. Three, four months ago he’d just proven to Gareth that he was an England player.

“But because of his injury problems, it’s a slight setback for him and the form of Phil Foden.

“He didn’t turn up, through no fault of his own, in the Champions League final because the actual team that Pep picked was slightly lopsided.

“So, he didn’t turn up and perform like you would have expected him to but over the last two months of the season, he went ahead of Jack in terms of Jack’s position.”

Subway teamed up with Chris Kamara to unveil a once in a lifetime garden stadium experience for five lucky England fans in Woking, after they lost their Euros tickets due to reduced stadium capacity.
