Callum Hudson-Odoi high fives Timo Werner after scoring against Morecambe in the FA Cup
Callum Hudson-Odoi is hoping he has done enough to regain a starting place against Fulham after netting in consecutive games against Manchester City, as a substitute, and Morecambe, in the FA Cup.
Hudson-Odoi was one of the few bright sparks for Chelsea in their 3-1 defeat against City, scoring a consolation in injury time after coming on midway through the second half. He then nabbed the third goal of a 4-0 win against Morecambe on Sunday, taking down a lofted through-ball from Hakim Ziyech before lashing it into the back of the net.
Frank Lampard has Hudson-Odoi, Ziyech and Christian Pulisic to pick from in the wide positions, but the academy graduate is determined to take his opportunities.
“You want to play in every game and get minutes, but I also want to improve in those minutes on the pitch whenever I get an opportunity to play,” said Hudson-Odoi.
“Whether in training or in a game, I need to give 110 per cent whether it is in attitude or playing on the pitch. I’ll do my best no matter what it is. I have the right mentality, I have the right attitude. I would never sulk about anything, I just want to do my best and take every opportunity I get.
“Every time I get on the pitch I just want to give my best. I just want to make sure I am always ready. The way you train affects the way you play and, hopefully, things will go well. So I want to keep working hard and learning.”
Lampard has praised Hudson-Odoi’s development over the past couple of weeks and the 20-year-old added: “Nobody is the perfect player, everybody has flaws.
“I want to keep learning whether it is on the pitch or at home watching clips of different stuff. Learning from the manager. He knows what is right for me.”
