West Ham are being offered the chance to sign £25million-rated RB Salzburg striker Patson Daka as a replacement for Sebastien Haller.

Frenchman Haller was allowed to join Ajax for £20.25million on Friday and boss David Moyes is now looking at alternative options.

Daka, 22, has scored 10 goals in 14 games this season, including two in the Champions League, and the Zambian, whose agent is former West Ham and Tottenham striker Freddie Kanoute, is keen to move to the Premier League.

But Moyes, whose side take on Stockport in the FA Cup on Monday, insists he will only make a signing if he is certain it is the right thing to do and, if no one fits the bill, he could well take a leaf out of Pep Guardiola’s book.

Asked if he could be without a replacement for longer than a week or 10 days with only Michail Antonio with any experience of playing through the middle for West Ham, Moyes said: “Unless you do what Manchester City does, play without a No.9 and you actually play even better than you've ever played before.

“You get in a situation, you play with a false nine and you can do that.

“You have to start being creative and certainly Pep Guardiola has been that with what he has done at Manchester City and, who knows if we don't have anybody, we will need to start being creative ourselves here.

“The Seb Haller situation was simply that we got an offer we weren’t expecting, we weren’t planning to lose him in this window.

“It’s a really good move for him to go to Ajax and something that maybe, if we didn’t take this offer now, we might not have got at a later stage, so we felt it was the right thing to do.”
