Vernon Kay's wife, Tess Daly, has been his biggest fan during his time in the I'm A Celebrity castle, but she's admitted she's missing him a lot.

The Strictly presenter has struggled to sleep and is worried about how her hubby is coping with the cold and lack of food.

Speaking to Lorraine earlier this week, she said: "Oh my goodness, it feels like he has been away forever.

"I think about him every moment of every day and I watch him every night, he is doing brilliantly and it’s lovely watching him but it’s nerve-wracking, it really is."

Tess met Family Fortunes presenter Vernon Kay at a BBC Christmas party in 2001, and they hit it off straight away.

Tess is five years older than Vernon and it didn't take him long to realise the former model was way more mature than any other girl he'd been with.

He told the Guardian: "Tess was the first proper woman I’d ever met."

And of the Tess' grown-up gesture that sealed the deal, he joked that it was all down to the type of bank card she used.

"She had a visa card when I was still on a student solo card," he quipped.

Tess believes the key to their happiness as a couple is the fact they had the same style of upbringing.

"There's an unspoken understanding between us, because we come from similar stock. We come from similar families. We've been brought up in a very similar way, really," she previously told the Belfast Telegraph.

"I guess that's one of the reasons I always felt so comfortable with him."

Just two years after their first meeting, Vernon got down on one knee and popped the question on Christmas Day at Tess' parents' home in Stockport.

Speaking to the Bolton News at the time, she said: "I was so shocked and surprised, but I am truly over the moon.

"It's the best Christmas present I've ever had."

They tied the knot on 12 September 2003 at St Mary’s Church in Horwich, Bolton – Vernon’s hometown – and held a reception at the nearby Rivington Hall Barn.

Tess looked gorgeous in a strapless A-line wedding dress by Marina Adanou, while Vernon went for a white suit by Alexandre Savile Row, which he paired with a pink shirt and patterned tie.

But sadly their honeymoon was marred by the devastating death of Tess' father from emphysema, just 18 days after he gave her away at her wedding.

"Honestly it was so difficult," she told the Guardian in 2010.

"I miss him terribly because he was just such a strong role model in my life. The man by whom I judged all others, really, because he was such an honourable and moral person who would never harm another being.

"Just a positive, outgoing… a great guy really and a brilliant father and I do really wish he could have met his grandchildren. That's my greatest regret, that he never met his grandchildren. It doesn't get easier. You learn to live with it as a fact of life."

Tess and Vernon welcomed daughter Phoebe, 16, in 2004 followed by Amber in 2009.
