Liverpool's hopes of signing Dayot Upamecano have received a major boost as the centre-back will reportedly leave RB Leipzig next summer.

Upamecano, 22, was heavily linked with a switch to the Premier League during the last transfer window, before eventually penning a new three-year deal at Red Bull Arena.

The France international is one of Europe's most promising centre-backs and he has featured in all but one of Leipzig's games this season, guiding them to fourth in the Bundesliga.

But there is a sense Upamecano's new deal last summer would only postpone rather than prevent an inevitable exit from the German club.

And such speculation has been back up by former Middlesbrough ace and Bild journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft, who wrote on Twitter : "Upamecano will leave Leipzig next summer."

However, he warned Liverpool will face stiff competition from other Premier League and European rivals in order to land their target.

Fjortoft added: " Bayern interested, but have to wait on [David] Alaba. Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City following him closely."
